I personally came across her Instagram page via the infamous app’s explorer page and once I finally stopped drooling over EVERY single post, I did what any other fellow foodie would do: Slid into her DM’s, of course. The west coast based chef and full time mom makes southern dishes that even Paula Deen would be salivating over so I couldn’t wait to not only feature her here, but to also work with her. So who exactly is Morghan Medlock?

Morghan is a former college athlete and ironically went to college not too far from where I went to high school. Her life, just like anyone else’s, has been filled with ups and downs and even though, her love for cooking has never faded. She puts love into everything she creates and if you can’t tell from her smile alone, the proof is in the always beaming smile of her son she affectionately refers to as, Bear. We were lucky enough to catch up with her and found our what inspires her and what advice she has for other women looking to create their own lane.

A+P: Everything on your Instagram page makes me SO hungry and it all looks so delicious. What’s your favorite meal to cook?

CMM: My FAVORITE meal to make is my buttermilk biscuits with a side of my shrimp & grits.

A+P: Every creative, even foodies, need constant and consistent inspiration. Where do you find yours?

CMM: My moods inspire me to make dishes. What I mean by that is, I am very moody, as is food and the way in which people consume it.  When one is feeling melancholy or sad, they tend to want to eat the sweeter, more comforting foods, as opposed to on a regular day, they may want to eat whatever their definition of “healthy” is.  I literally let my moods direct my creative spirit and it never fails me. Food is emotional, you can feel my emotions through my food. Another thing that inspires me to try new dishes is researching and reading culinary journals and articles as well as books or watching the food network. The will to want to grow as a person, mother, and chef inspire me daily to create new dishes and they usually reflect the mood I’m in, whether it is good or bad Either way, the food comes out amazing every single time, even when I fuck up.

A+P: Food is such a vital part of life and brings so many people together. If you could prepare a meal for anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?

CMM: If I could cook for one living person it would be for Ndamukong Suh. He’s a professional athlete for the Los Angeles Rams. I would want to cook for him because he is a known foodie around the NFL and seems to have a pretty diverse palette. I would cook for him an entire brunch buffet of my best dishes because I feel like he would be a GREAT critic. These dishes include shrimp & grits, Mac n cheese, my buttermilk biscuits, a brunch salad with a homemade vinaigrette, my quiche, my burrata plate, the list goes on!

A+P: Being a full time chef and mother can’t be easy but you do it with such excitement and grace. If you could give one piece of advice to women looking to pave their own way in this world, what would it be?

CMM: The advice I have for other women paving their way into this world is to NEVER FUCKING STOP! Take a break and catch your breath if you need to, but don’t ever stop: moving, wishing, dreaming, trying, learning , researching, loving, PRAYING, giving and forgiving, fighting, talking your shit, proving, encouraging yourself and others, and NEVER, EVER, NEVER, EVER let ANYBODY, especially men, make you feel like you aren’t THAT BITCH PERIOD!
